SOUND
Areas of sound theory
Rhythm: Music,
speech and sound effect
Fidelity: The degree of exactness with which something is copied or
reproduced.
Parallel Contrapuntal: When
the sound we hear should usually go hand in hand with the image on screen. This
is known on Parallel sound.
Time: Synchronous sounds- Synchronous sound is sound that is matched to certain movements occurring in the scene e.g when footsteps correspond to feet walking. Asynchronous sounds- Asynchronous sounds match the action being performed however is not precisely synchronised with the action. Asynchronous sound is used when the director wants to create tension as the viewer can hear a sound but can not see its source.
Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sound: Diegetic- Natural sounds you hear within a scene. Non- Diegetic- Sounds that you hear that are edited in for effect during post production.
